In and Out #3

I feel un-makeup-y today. There's something about January that puts me in a contemplative mood and takes me away from the comfortable materialistic thoughts of my usual life. So let me just scratch the surface of these thoughts with an in and out post.

In:

Getting to know my country's history. As an Indian raised almost entirely in the USA, my knowledge of my origins is abysmally embarrassing. I don't know the Guptas from the Moryas (does anyone?!). So I'm lately reading tomes on my country's cultural roots. In a nutshell, there were a lotta invaders.

Getting to know my local library! How come no one goes to local libraries anymore? They've become so pimped out these days! If everyone went, places like Barnes & Nobles and NetFlix would run for cover. I just checked out a DVD of The American President. Next DVDs on the list are Marie Antoinette and Running With Scissors.

Rosewater: I have filled a travel-size spray bottle (from Target) with rosewater, and use it to spritz my super-dry face throughout the day. Take that Fix+!
(ok I still want you cuz I'm a MAC slave, but I will play hard-to-get darn it!)

Out

Not knowing which drugstore mascara to buy: Maybe you guys can turn this Out into an In by telling me. I just finished my tube of Define-A-Lash lengthening formula. What should be next? I want volume AND length and I want it to be drugstore!

Chippy tips: Let me explain. The tips of my nails always chip off their nail color in 1 day after I've applied them with great love and care. WTF am I doing wrong? (before you ask, I do use a topcoat)

That's enough moaning for a day. I'll get off the soapbox now. Just had itchy fingers and wanted to rant to you guys. Sorry, no useful information this time. I guess this was a "Juicystar07 vlog" style post. ;)

Oh I always appreciate people who are interested in culture!!! I love reading!

About Eyeko...my effort was not in vain: starting tomorrow, every order outside the UK and Europe will be sent via Signed for Delivery (which means no free delivery outside Europe anymore, but it's only £3.50 for a Signed For!) and the tracking number will be provided in the email that tells you when your order is dispatched.
I think that is an improvement.

As regards your mascara search: try Max Factor's False Lash Effect! I am going to review it soon on my blog (exams time now)...it is the most amazing mascara I have ever seen. My lashes do look false! Full, super duper long, and curl too!

Farewell to my Rimmel Sexy Curves (at least for special occasions)

Lol @ the Juicystar07 reference. Loving it! Anyway, I'm using Loreal Collagen, and I like it alright. Probably something a lot better out there.

Hey Ashwini!

For volume, I would tell you to go for CoverGirl LashBlast and for lenght, Maybelline Lash Stiletto. But since you want both, you can use this little tip: first apply the volumizing mascara, and then follow with the lenghtening one (=

I've been dealing with chippy tips some times ago. I don't know what I did wrong! I did apply a base and a top coat, and no more than 2 coats of polish. I thought it was because the nail polish was cheap (it's from Sally Hansen), but I'm currently wearing one from Sally Hansen and it's been 3 days now and I see no chip! YEY!

Oh yes, they say to re-apply a coat of top coat every to freshen your manicure and make it last longer! I do it, and it works ^^

my favorite drugstore mascaras for volume and length are l'oreal voluminous and maybelline pulse perfection.

for nails that don't chip as quickly, i always have good luck with china glaze polishes and seche vite top coat. i hear it helps to touch up the top coat once in a while :)

Thanks for your comment on my FOTD ^^ Actually, using pigments is not as hard as it seems, I swear! I'm using two application techniques: I use my pinkie to apply shadow, or I "pat" the shadow using a brush. The important thing is to not swipe the pigments over your lid, as it will only causes it to fall all over your face. Hope it helped (=

I like your ins and outs. But I love reading your makeup reviews, so hopefully you get makeup-ly soon.

I have never tried rosewater before. thanks for the advice. I normally use a hydration mist from Glo Minerals and now have an alternative when I run out.
when you figure out how to stop the chipping, please let me know desperately. my names are great for two days then as soon as i wash dishes (even with gloves) or go to the gym, they look awful.

Ugh I have the same feeling about January AND the same problem with nail polishes. :(

As for the mascara, I'd recommend maybelline volum' express turbo boost. It's my favorite so far but different person feels differently about the mascara. I do found someone on the blogosphere who likes it as much as me. :)

Hi, :)

Using both a top coat & bottom coat solved the chippy tips problem for me :D.

I use Jordana's top & bottom coat paint.

May be ur hands r in water for a long time ;)LOL

Ashwini said...

Ooh so many new mascaras to try out! Thanks ladies.

Divija: argh I DO have my hands in water for too long. I wash my hands too often and do the dishes often. Grrr....

Thanks for the touching up tips for my nails. I'll start doing that (hopefully I won't be lazy about it)

@Tris: ok ok I'll get back to makeup now. ;)

Hey Ashwini, top tip for nails, take your colour slightly under the tip and apply a topcoat there too. A day or two later, apply more topcoat under and on the tip to extend the wear (typing etc wears away the topcoat at the very tip). Hope this helps!

I'll have to try the rosewater from target, since I want fix+, but don't wanna dish out the cash!

And as for your chipping nails, my polish tends to last pretty long and here's what I do:

Apply CND Creative Stickey base coat, 2-3 THIN coats of polish, and then before the polish has a chance to dry even the slightest bit I apply a thin layer of Seche Vite top coat (making sure to get the edges of the nails). I usually do one hand at a time, so that the polish doesn't have a chance to dry before I apply the Seche Vite!

Hope that helps!

Where do you find Seche Vite?

Ashwini said...

@Anonymous: Sally Beauty Supply, Ulta and Amazon.com carry Seche Vite. You can also try your luck at local beauty stores.
