Try to clean your brushes at least once a week. It's going to prevent breakouts and prolong the life of these indispensable tools. EnKore has a great video on a how to make your own brush cleanser using things you probably already have at home. All you need is a measuring cup, a tablespoon, a mixing container, and a bottle to store the cleanser.
Mix the following ingredients together in a large container:
-1 cup of distilled/purified water
- 1/4 cup of 70% isopropyl alcohol
- 1/2 tbsp dish soap (I used Dawn)
- 1/2 tbsp gentle shampoo (I used Organix Mandarin Olive Oil)
- 1 tbsp of leave-in conditioner (I used Tresemee)
Gently stir to prevent suds from forming.
To clean my brushes, I poured a bit of the cleanser into another container, dipped my brush in it, and then wiped the brush on a thick paper towel. Overall, I think this worked quite well on my small eye brushes. However, it didn't get my face brushes clean at all, so I had to resort to hand soap and running water.Overall, I think this is a good cleanser for your eye brushes, since it quickly removes the color with minimal mess. However, its doesn't really deep clean face brushes.
This is just the nature of DIY projects I guess. When it goes right, it's like"Take that, retail!". But when it goes wrong, it's like "Grr, should've left it up to the pros." I think this cleanser has left me with a little bit of both feelings.
I'd love to know your opinions on how to clean brushes, so please comment below. :)

I am very bad at cleaning my brushes...esp my blush brush even though I use it more regularly now than before. I saw a few videos on youtube on how to clean brushes; so, check those out. My personal favs are the ones by oxfordjasmine and panacea81.
Ciao!

I haven't tried this DIY method since I'm kinda lazy, hehe. I usually wash my brushes with lukewarm water and soap, and every now and then treat them to conditioner. Yes, I'm that obsessed, LOL! But it leaves them nice and fluffy =)
@ Suchi: thanks for checking out the blog babe! I've seen panacea's vid. She's uses baby shampoo, which I think I'll buy because I love the whole J&J baby line.
@Marce: Soap and water do work the best, but my reason for making this mixture is to find a gentler way to clean. Soap & water make my brushes lose shape a bit. Thanks for the conditioner tip!
i always use cetaphil cleanser but i never conditioned them until the girl at my mac store said that as key to keeping the hair from falling out/breaking.
It's perfect time to make some plans for the future and it is time to be happy. I have read this post and if I could I desire to suggest you few interesting things or advice. Perhaps you can write next articles referring to this article. I wish to read more things about it!

I think everything posted made a ton of sense.
However, what about this? what if you added a little information?
I am not saying your content isn't solid, but what if you added something that makes people want more? I mean "EnKore's Homemade Brush Cleaner" is a little plain. You ought to look at Yahoo's front page and note how they write article titles to get viewers to open the links. You might add a related video or a related picture or two to get people excited about everything've got to say. In my opinion, it might bring your posts a little livelier.
